What is Embotido?
Embotido is a traditional Filipino steamed meatloaf that showcases the rich flavors and cultural heritage of the Philippines. Ingredients
- 1 pound ground pork
- 1 cup grated carrots
- 1 cup chopped bell peppers
- 1/2 cup raisins
- 1/2 cup green peas (optional)
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 hard-boiled eggs, sliced (for filling)
- 1/4 cup ketchup (for topping)
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground pork, grated carrots, chopped bell peppers, raisins, green peas, onions, garlic, beaten eggs, breadcrumbs, soy sauce, and seasoning. Mix well until fully combined.
- Transfer the mixture onto a sheet of aluminum foil, shaping it into a loaf. Place the sliced hard-boiled eggs in the center.
- Wrap the loaf tightly in the foil, making sure it is sealed properly.
- Steam the wrapped embotido for about 1 hour. Make sure to check the water levels in the steamer as you cook.
- Once cooked, allow it to cool for a few minutes before unwrapping, and drizzle with ketchup before serving.
Serving Suggestions and Storage
Serve your embotido warm, garnished with extra vegetables or rice for a complete meal. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, or frozen for up to a month.
Variations
